The American Red Cross continues to operate a shelter for those in need at the Leon Mann Center located at 3820 Galantis Dr., Morehead City, NC. The Red Cross can be contacted at the shelter by calling 252-247-2626.
FEMA has established a mobile Disaster Recovery Center at the Newport Town Hall located at 200 Howard Blvd. Representatives from FEMA, the Small Business Admistration, and other state agencies will be on-site to assist those in need. Assistance will be provided with registering for individual assistance daily until further notice. Hours of operation are Mon-Sat 9am - 7pm, Sun 9am - 1pm.
Additional Disaster Recovery Centers have been established at the Carteret County Health Department located at 3820 Bridges St., Morehead City, and at the Carteret County Board of Elections located at 1702 Live Oak St., Beaufort.
FEMA has announced that temporay housing units may be available for those that qualify. Those in need of temporary housing should contact FEMA as per below:

A donation and distribution center has been established in the Cypress Bay Shopping Center located at 5167 Hwy 70, Unit 120, in Morehead City. Hours of operation are:
Mon-Fri 9am - 4pm and Sat 9am - 1pm

The Town of Newport is providing debris pickup for storm related damages for town residents. Vegetative, construction and demolition debris, and white goods should be placed curbside and separated by type for pickup. Debris pickup will occur Monday through Saturday until further notice. Please be patient as our utilities crew works diligently to remove and clean up storm debris.
No electronics or hazardous materials will be accepted; those must be taken to the disposal site operated by Waste Industries on Hibbs Rd.
Citizens may also continue to dispose of storm related debris at the temporary debris site established at 293 Carl Garner Rd., Newport. The site is scheduled to operate from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm, Monday through Sunday. Please follow the signage for appropriate disposal debris areas.

The Coastal Environmental Partnership will hold a Household Hazardous Waste event on Saturday, October 27th from 8am - 1pm at the Carteret County Health Department located at 3820 Bridges Street in Morhead City.
Accepted Items include:
Latex and oil paints, used motor oil, farm pesticides, gasoline, drain openers, paint thinners, cooking oil, and antifreeze.
NO commerical waste, gas cylinders, explosives, ammunition, or infectious, biological or radiological wastes will be accepted.
Electronics are accepted year-round in Carteret County. For more information contact Carteret County Solid Waste at 252-648-7878.

Disasters such as this can bring out the best in people and it has truly been a blessing to witness the kindness and genouisty poured out by so many in our community as neighbor helps neighbor.
Unfortunately, such events can also bring about those seeking to take advantage of others. While there are many well-intentioned and reputable organizations in our area to assist those adversely affected by this storm, citizens are encouraged to proceed with caution when engaging in a business relationship, particularly with contractors who do not normally do business in our area.
